Inconsistent early, Dale Burns' Vikings arrived on a four-game winning streak and ranked fifth in Northeast Tennessee. 6-1 senior Gary "Two" Morton, who scored 26 touchdowns in football and missed all but one day of preseason practice for the playoffs, led at 21.5 points after a career-high 35 against Virginia High. Joey Malone (6-6) controlled the inside at 15.1 points and 10 rebounds alongside Cricker Lauderback (6-4), with guards Jeff Gossett and Chris Hutton and Wally Proffitt off the bench as three-point threats. 7-3 coming in.
