The host Vikings came in off back-to-back district championships and 55 wins in two years, but had lost eight seniors. The one returning starter was 6-9, 290-pound junior Drew Porter, an all-regional performer, with 6-2 senior Justin Hampton back after averaging 7 points off the bench and Matt Buchanan at the point. The rest of the roster had only junior varsity experience.
