A couple of points short of the state tournament the year before, Dale Burns' Vikings began with one full-time starter back. They grew up behind 6-4½ senior Lewis Satterwhite at 18 points a game and 6-3 senior Paul Cheney, the best three-point threat, at 17.1. Matt Keeter (5-7, jr.) ran the point, 6-4 sophomore Brent Messer and 6-3 freshman Kevin Springs were coming into their own, and Burns had plenty of depth behind them. 7-3 coming in.
