ABOUT THE CRUSADERS

Coach John Buck has led the Crusaders to three New York State Federation Championships (2011, 2012, 2019) and was one of five finalists for USA Today’s National Coach of the Year in 2019. The pandemic stalled Long Island Lutheran’s season a year ago as they went 3-0 and were ranked No. 15 nationally prior to the season by MaxPreps. Currently, the Crusaders are ranked No. 9 by MaxPreps.  Jayden Pierre, a 6-1 guard, who has committed to Providence, leads the way for the Long Island team, along with James Johns, a 6-5 junior guard who is mulling over offers from UConn and Wake Forest. Johns is ranked No. 105 in Rivals Top 150, as is fellow junior guard Jayden Reid (5-11), who comes in at No. 130.
