Mike Williams' ninth Sullivan South team was built around Dan Wright, a 6-4 senior post (16.7 points, eight rebounds) and perhaps the best athlete in Northeast Tennessee: a quarterback who threw for more than 1,500 yards and a pitcher throwing 86 mph, committed to Arkansas for baseball and football. Mike Hoover, a 6-1 senior wing (15.0), and Robbie Hoover, a 6-0 junior (10.1), were shooting well from outside, and 6-4 junior Doug Haile added 9.0. The guards were still finding their way. 6-4 coming in.
