Better than Carl Childress had feared after losing four starters: 3-1 in the Big Nine and seventh in Upper East Tennessee, though just beaten by previously winless David Crockett. 6-6 senior Jerome Hall, one of the area's best, averaged 18.1 and had reached double figures in every game, with 6-2 senior Steve Compton (9.9), 6-0 senior Keith Lisenby (7.1), 6-2 junior Joel Conkin and 6-3 senior John Staten. 6-3 coming in.
