Robert High's Panthers, 30-6 the year before, had already lost more than half as many games after a run of injuries. Forward/center Mario Beaman, a 6-5 junior named Chattanooga's most promising player a year earlier, averaged 10.3 points before an ankle injury left him day-to-day. Demetrius Alexander, a 6-5 junior forward, did not join the team until the sixth game after a knee injury and scored 11.0. Sophomore forward Tshombe High led at 15.3 and sophomore point guard Eddie Kellum scored 13.3, while guard Kenneth Sandridge had 20 in the last two games. 4-4 coming in.
