Cary Daniels' third Indians team was the surprise of the Big 8 after he had expected little from a young club with two returnees. Sophomore point guard William Miller (13.5 points) moved to North Carolina over the summer and came back before school started; sophomore Jesse McMillian (14.0), junior Dimingo Hale (18), the league's biggest surprise, and senior Jim Ed Martin (12.0) worked the post. The defense held six of nine opponents to 46 points or fewer. The season before, D-B went 20-15 and reached the Class AAA sub-state. 8-1 coming in.
