Cary Daniels' Dobyns-Bennett team defended well, allowing 56.4 points a game, but had trouble scoring, shooting 28 percent in one game against Elizabethton. 5-10 senior point guard Michael Farthing (11.4 points, 4.5 assists), 6-4 senior wing Kevin Robinson (12.7) and 6-0 sophomore wing Tylee Henry made up a good perimeter trio, with 6-3 junior Steven Tarter inside and Fred Powell and Aaron Kincaid off the bench. The Indians had been third in the Big 10 and reached the sub-state the year before. 7-3 coming in.
