Patrick Henry High School

Woody Deans' Patriots, 1987 Arby's champions, were less talented than that team but tournament-tested after close losses to Harker Prep and Southside of Atlanta in Hawaii the year before. Six players averaged in double figures, led by 6-5 junior forward Timmy Basham, younger brother of Arby's rebounding record holder Bernard Basham. Senior forward Turk Smith (6-3), cleared to play after two years out with a heart problem, center Jonas Callis (6-6), guards Troy Manns and Melvin Wilson, and sophomore reserves Shannon Taylor and Curtis Staples filled out the rotation. 4-0 coming in.
