1988
Two years after a Class AAA final four, Herb Hawkes, closing in on 400 wins, was still rebuilding after losing four starters including Marty Story and Frankie DeBusk, and the Greene Devils fell to 15-12 the season before. Defense was their strength: only 6-2 senior center Bennie Anderson scored in double figures, at 12 points with seven rebounds. Point guard Doug DeBusk (5-3) was doubtful with a broken hand, and sophomores Brigham Lyons and Marcellous Rodgers (both 5-11) and 6-3 junior Todd Malone made up the rest of the lineup. 6-7 coming in.
