Westside High School

Ranked No. 1 in Georgia after a state final four, Ken Wright's balanced Patriots were led by 6-1 Ricky Moore, rated among the top 25 players in the country and signed with Connecticut, at 21 points a game. Sophomore guard William Avery (15) and 6-5, 240-pound Mike Cummings also played key roles, and all five starters could score in double figures. Westside relied on athleticism over size and depth and had just played in the King of the Bluegrass tournament in Kentucky. 3-0 coming in.
