Young and expected to be even stronger a year later, Ted Anderson's Memphis Hamilton was still a threat to win the tournament. The Wildcats' best were 6-6 junior Kurtis Murray, 6-7 freshman Parris London, 6-foot senior point guard Marion Phillips and 6-6 junior center Will Smith. London was one of four Wildcats from the Memphis club that won the 15-and-under national AAU tournament in Kingsport. 10-1 coming in.
