Within nine seconds of the Group AA state title the season before, with nine lettermen back and four regional titles since 1993, but without leading scorer Chris Peters, gone to Virginia-Wise, and with 6-3 senior wing Tony McDonald, who had averaged 19.4, out after surgery on his back. 6-5 senior post Jeremy Houseright (12.7 ppg) was an exceptional shot-blocker and rebounder, with 5-11 senior guard David Jones (12.7) and 6-5 junior forward Justin Seaver (10.7). 2-1 coming in.
