Tabb High School

Tabb drew as many football coaches as basketball ones. Senior Terry Kirby (6-3), voted the nation's top football player, was chasing Virginia's all-time basketball scoring record and wanted to play both sports in college, and 6-5 senior Chris Slade was a big-time defensive end prospect. Doug Baggett's other starters were seniors Bobby Hallett (6-7), drawing Division I basketball interest, Jimmy McKechnie (6-6), a placekicking prospect, and Daniel Goode (5-8). Tabb had played in the Group AA state tournament two years earlier but lost 39-35 to Brunswick in the regionals the year before. 5-0 coming in.
