Marty Street's first Pioneers team, after four seasons at Sevier County, was a young one with no seniors in the starting lineup. Three-year starter Bert Britton, a 6-1 junior post and the school's top athlete in football and baseball, sophomore point guard Ben Earnest and junior guard Tony Anderson each scored 12 a game, with 6-4 junior Josh Odom and sophomore guard Chris Chandley. A good outside-shooting and fullcourt-pressing team, Crockett had struggled early in a tough league and with a new coach. 3-5 coming in.
