Blacksburg High School

Blacksburg had one of the tournament's best players in 6-6 senior Tim Weathers, a regional MVP and all-state pick the year before at 26 points and 11 rebounds, who was committed to Richmond and averaging 29 points and 12 rebounds. Jim Touchberry, whose team had exceeded his expectations after losing nine seniors from a 22-5 club, ran a controlled offense with a small lineup: guards Henry Hopper (5-10, sr., 11 points) and Brian Byars (6-1, 9), plus 5-11 senior Eric Stacy and 5-7 sophomore Timmy Camp. 5-1 coming in.
