Ranked No. 1 among South Carolina's AAAA teams in the preseason after a 27-4 year, though Doug Lowe insisted this was not one of his better clubs. The Vikings scored about 68 a game behind three seniors: point guard Cody Porter (6-3, 20 ppg), small forward Kelvin Browning (6-5, 18 points, eight rebounds) and center Ron Pittard (6-8, eight points, six rebounds), with sophomore Mike Robbs (6-3) at forward and Tyrone Ballenger and Isaac Sims sharing off guard. Quick and big but thin, they had already won a tournament in Charlotte. 8-1 coming in.
